New Custom Machine Sold To American Axle
New Op 50 Replacement
Old Excello Op 50 – beyond machine life cycle –
resulting in excess downtime and unable to hold machining tolerances
Midwest Machine Tool Services met with Skilled Trades,
Job-setters and Engineering Team to identify key items for improvement –
prior to machine design.
Items identified for improvement:
- Improve chip evacuation – with new machine base design and coolant flush
- Maintain same components (switches / valves / part holding tooling) already stocked in plant to reduce inventory of spare parts).
- Reduce electrical cord length – terminates at “proximity blocks” to reduce downtime.
- Decrease size of guards for easier removal / replacement.
- Install permanently mounted accelerometers for Predictive Maintenance vibration readings.
- Locate scales outside machine for better protection from chips and easier access.
- Mount axis motors outside guard envelope for easier removal / replacement.
- New operator “graphic offset screen” at main control panel – for quality moves – includes new diagnostic page for trouble-shooting.
- Servo slide positioning – eliminates hydraulic slides / hard stops.
- Eliminated Hydra-lock style collet / driver with ABS quick connection
Skilled Trades / Job-setters / Predictive Maintenance reviewed machine build progress. Required changes were made prior to run-off and shipment.
